about

Moira Mulvey showcases the colours, textures and overlooked beauty of neglected buildings and wild spaces.

Her early childhood was in the suburbs of Manchester, a neglected and often derelict neighbourhood, the street consisting of overcrowed two up – two down houses with outdoor bathrooms. At the age of 7, her family then relocated to Northamptonshire, to a town which had undergone a massive home building scheme, with sprawling council estates providing brand new housing to families like hers. The luxury of an indoor bathroom and central heating was mind blowing. However, her first home left an indelible mark on how she sees the world. She seeks the the neglected and derelict, fascinated with the imagined history of a place and has an affection for it’s inherent authenticity.

Moira wants to show how human intervention impacts nature, but eventually nature takes over and the two meld together. These images are time capsules. Nature is the great equaliser, no matter how grand or lowly the origins of the building, the end result is the same. From burnt out prisons and tsunami hit beach villa’s to long abandoned grand Scottish estates, colour, life and vibrancy grow.
